At its core, leadership is about two things: 1) Example - Leadership is lead - er- ship. Effective leaders don't sit in the director's chair and tell others what to do, they lead out in doing the things they are calling others to do. "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ." 1 Cor. 11:1 2) Influence - Effective leadership is about far more than just having a title. It's about getting down on your knees and loving, serving, encouraging and teaching people - so that they are impacted (influenced) in a positive way toward spiritual growth in Christ. Leaders within the church are called (throughout the New Testament) to be lead servants, encouragers, examples and equippers-who empower the body to serve and live for Christ. Thus leaders must be humble, team player who are full of grace and lovers of people (both inside and outside of the church). They must be mature in their walk with Christ, sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit, committed to prayer and have a firm grip on the teachings of Scripture. |
